ULLAPOOL COASTAL ROWING CLUB

Welcome to the Ullapool Coastal Rowing Club. We row the St Ayles Skiff as a way of keeping fit, having fun, and participating in the sport of coastal rowing.

In 2009 Adrian Morgan assembled a syndicate of 8 people who contributed to buying a St Ayles Skiff kit. The St Ayles is designed by renowned small boat designer Iain Oughtred. Based on the Fair Isle Skiff, the design is a modern interpretation of a traditional boat for Northern waters.

Chris Perkins and Topher Dawson headed the build and skiff number 2, Ulla, was launched the following spring.

UCRC was formed shortly afterwards, and rapidly attracted more members. We have run the well attended Ullapool Regatta every year since 2011 and in 2013 we ran the inaugural World Championship.

As well as our own regatta we attend other clubs’ regattas and have been as far afield as Cork, London and the Netherlands.

Our second skiff Cul Mor was built in 2011 by school pupils directed by Topher, and was rowed in 2019 by club members over the 50 mile sea crossing from Stornoway to Ullapool. They raised over £30,000 for charity.

If you would like to try out Coastal Rowing for yourself you will be very welcome at one of our regular evening or weekend sessions. See our rowing calendar for up to date details of our programme. We have social rowing sessions as well as more energetic race training. We keep rowing throughout the winter when conditions are suitable.
